Week 8 of the Reddit 52 Weeks of Cooking challenge gave me one of my favorite themes so far… TV Show Inspired. There were a lot of ways to go with this one. Most of the TV shows I watch have some kind of food theme running through them (shocker, right??). I wanted to try something I had never done before, or at least try some new techniques. I went to Desperate Housewives for the inspiration. One of the main characters from the show is the consummate homemaker. She cooks, bakes, cleans, sews…etc. Of course I’m referring to Bree VanDeKamp, who was played by the gorgeous and talented Marcia Cross.
In the fictitious town of Wisteria Lane, Bree is famous for her lemon meringue pie. So that’s what I made. And it was… more difficult than I anticipated. It was not a perfect replica, but it still tasted pretty good. The custard was delicious. Tart and sweet. My meringue was a little off in the texture. But I think for a first try on a complicated pie, it wasn’t half bad.
Here is the recipe I used from Food.com
I would definitely give this pie another go. It was really tasty. It would be perfect for your next BBQ or get together with friends!
